2015 7th Grade Outstanding Character Award Winners

Congratulations to this year's Outstanding Character Award Winners from the 7th grade! These students have consistently demonstrated good character to both their teachers and peers and serve as positive representatives of Homewood Middle School. Officer Poellnitz, Ms. Nowak, and I were very pleased to take each of these students to Brookwood Village for lunch and a little shopping fun today! Each student was given a $25 cash award through the Patriot Pride Program of the Homewood Police Department. A special thanks to Mr. Pearson for stopping by to see us!

Teen Court

Teen Court is looking for volunteers for the upcoming school year to assist with their programs in both the Birmingham and Bessemer divisions. Students entering grades 8-12 and armed with a desire to serve are eligible to apply. Teen volunteers have the opportunity to serve as attorneys, clerks, bailiffs, and jurors for this real court. Teen attorneys represent and prosecute teen offenders and a jury decides how the offender will be held accountable by rendering a constructive sentence. Girls Inc. Program

Girls Inc. of Central Alabama's Eureka! Teen Achievement Program is now accepting applications from girls entering the 8th grade for the 2015-16 school  year. Participants will enjoy: engaging hands-on STEM projects, field trips and college tours, adventure sports, and new friends to name just a few benefits! The program will be July 6-31, 2015 at UAB. Community Service Hours

All community service hours are due to me by this Friday, April 10th. Students who have earned 60 or more hours from April 2014-March 2015 will be recognized at the May Awards Program for their grade level. Please let me know if you have any questions! 

2015-16 HMS Peer Helper Applications

2015-16 HMS Peer Helper applications are available from Mrs. Baldwin or the main office beginning April 7th. Current 6th and 7th grade students who are interested in helping serve their peers and community may apply if they have a "C" or above in all classes, a clean discipline record, good attendance, enjoy community service, and possess leadership skills. There is a brief informational video with information and requirements posted on my blog. Applications are due to Mrs. Baldwin by April 21st and no late applications will be accepted. If you have any questions about the HMS Peer Helping Program, please let me know!

Medication Disposal

There is a new website that is available to help community members understand the issue of prescription drug abuse. The website also lists area Police Departments that have medication drop boxes for citizens to safely dispose of unused/unwanted medications. The Homewood Police Department is one of the disposal locations. The link to the website is http://www.rxdropbox.com/.

After School Peer Helper Tutoring Today!

After school Peer Helper tutoring resumes today! We are available in room 214 from 3p-3:45p on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Track & Field Athlete Meeting Today!

All 7th & 8th grade athletes interested in trying out for Track and Field this spring:

We will have a brief meeting after school in the gym on Monday, January 12th from 3:05-3:15 to hand out informational packets and discuss the tryout expectations. This meeting is for athletes, We will have a parent meeting for athletes who make the team in February.

Track tryouts will be February 11th and 12th 3:15-5:00.

Athletes MUST have a current Alabama Athletic Physical to participate!!!
