Community Service Program

Get involved in serving your community! Serving others is a wonderful way to build compassion, perseverance, cooperation, and responsibility. Community Service activities are defined as those activities which assist other people or the community itself for which the student receives neither pay, prizes, nor academic credit. Any time you provide a service to a person (other than a family member) and receive no compensation, you are providing community service. Some community service/volunteer activities for middle school students include:

• Community Garden
• Birmingham Zoo
• Humane Society
• Public Library
• Opportunities through churches
• Opportunities through school-sponsored organizations
• Retirement Homes and/or Senior Centers
• Food Banks
• Hospitals
• Homeless Shelters
• Special Olympics
• Community Fund-Raising Events
• Political Campaigns
• Baby-sitting (not for a relative and without pay)
• Yard work (not for a relative and without pay)
• Pet sitting (not for a relative and without pay)

These are just a few ideas. There are many ways to be active in the community and provide service to others!

Students may pick up Community Service Forms from Mrs. Baldwin (room 215) or the main office at any time during the school year. Community Service Forms are also available by clicking here: Community Service Form.

For recognition at the May Awards Day Assembly, students must complete at least sixty (60) hours of community service. Hours must be submitted to Mrs. Baldwin by the Friday after Spring Break. Students with the most hours at each grade level will receive additional recognition.
